Creating the Perfect Playlist.

When we ask client to choose what color lighting, what times they would like us to host things they have almost an immediate answer. But when asking them to create a playlist of music of their choice this bit becomes difficult. Here is some handy tips on how to create that perfect playlist.

Limit your playlist selection!

We have had some almighty playlists sent to us in the past and when we say “almighty” we are talking 24 hours worth of music and more. One thing to remember is that the average song last approximately 4-5 minutes, so 10 songs would last approximately 1 hour, with this in mind limit your playlist to maximum of 25 songs and this will also allow enough time for you and your guests to make requests on the night and for your DJ to play songs that he/she knows will get your guests on that dancefloor. Let’s face it no one wants to host a party and have a bare dancefloor!

The Floor Filler Selection

We would normally recommend this to any party. You do indeed need a floor filler selection added to your playlist. Although some people’s tastes are different to others your aim should be “ What songs would get my guests dancing”. From experience when your guests have arrived and have sat down for food and have consumed more than enough drinks they want entertaining and that’s where your list comes into play be sure to choose more upbeat songs, songs that people can sing out loud to is a great choice.

  • Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam

  • Black Box - Ride on Time

  • West End feat. Sybil - The Love I Lost

  • Bobby Brown - Two Can Play That Game

  • Robin S - Show Me Love

Songs that your family and friends will love

There are so many immensely great songs to choose. It may be that your a Heavy Metal fan which is absolutely fine! But ask yourself would your granny look good rocking out and head banging for 30 minutes straight.? Sounds funny when you say it, but in hindsight your Granny will probably be requesting ear defenders and wanting the next taxi home! We are not saying don’t have this type of music but know your limits and think of your guests and what they will dance to. We would advise to look at your guest list and the age ranges and think of tracks that they may have grown up with as well as your own favs. After all you know your guests better than we do.

Time is of the essence

Timing is everything when it comes to a playlist. Although most clients leave the timing to the DJ with their music selections you may get the odd request during the night ie - A guest requesting you play Whitney Houston - I will always love you, right at that moment when you have a full dancefloor, dancing to the latest chart toppers. It just doesn’t work, save those winding down songs for the end of the evening.

We hope this blog post has helped a little with helping you choose the right tracks for your playlist. If you would like some more help on creating your list contact us at any time to discuss.
